Recently, we received a thank-you letter from a team of OSINT investigators who had used our numbers in a fraud case. Their client had lost a significant amount of money after clicking an Instagram ad for a fake exchange service. The investigators weren't based in the US, so they needed an account that looked local, including a US phone number for verification.
Here's the letter they sent us:
We wanted to thank you for your help with a recent case. We are an OSINT investigation team based in South Korea. Our client lost a significant amount of money through a fake p2p exchange whose ad he saw on Instagram.
To investigate, we needed to see the same ad he saw. The campaign was targeted at users in the US, so from Korea we simply couldn't find it. With a US number from your platform, we were able to register an Instagram account, find the ad and track the people behind it.
Thank you for a fast and reliable service. It made an important part of our work much easier.
Why This Matters to Us
People often assume temporary numbers are only used for spam or fake accounts. In reality, many of our users rely on them for perfectly legitimate reasons: protecting their privacy, testing apps or, as in this case, investigating fraud.
OSINT investigators face a specific problem. Many platforms and ads are only visible to users in certain countries, and an investigator's personal or work number can reveal who is behind the research. A temporary number lets them get through verification without exposing their identity.
We're glad our numbers helped in this case, and grateful the team took the time to tell us.
