Auto Receive is designed as an alternative to our former long-term rentals. Unfortunately, we cannot restore rentals in their previous form. When all our long-term numbers were deactivated, many clients experienced serious disruption, and we don't want to put them through that again. Instead, Auto Receive gives you a more predictable arrangement: each number has a fixed deactivation date, which you can check in advance.
How to enable or disable Auto Receive
- Web panel: Once a request is completed (a message has been received), click the Enable Auto Receive button. Use the same button to turn it off.
- API: Add the
autoreceiveparameter to therequest_statuscommand:&autoreceive=onto enable,&autoreceive=offto disable.
Enabling and disabling are both free.
How to find the deactivation date
- Web panel: Hover over the ⓘ icon next to the phone number.
- API: Read the
deactivatesfield in the responses of therequestandrequest_statuscommands. - Webhook: The
deactivatesfield is also included in the webhook payload of "priority_request" event type.
Limitations
- No renewals. A number can't be extended past its deactivation date.
- No guarantee of uptime. We can't promise that a number will stay online until the deactivation date. Sometimes providers terminate numbers or they stop working.
Because of this, don't rely on Auto Receive as the only way to recover access to an account that matters to you.
Pricing
Auto Receive is free to turn on or off. Unlike the Reuse feature, it doesn't include the 50% discount on received messages, so each incoming SMS is charged at the regular price. Because of that, since incoming messages keep arriving after your first code, your balance can drop below zero. When that happens, you'll stop seeing new messages as they come in. After you top up your balance, you can view the previously received SMS messages in the web panel or via the API.
Tips
- Check the deactivation date when you request a number, and plan around it.
- Turn off Auto Receive when you no longer need it, so you don't pay for messages you don't want.
- Keep some balance on your account while it's enabled.
